FORESTRY WORK IN SANQUHAR WOODS AUTUMN/WINTER 2025

FCWT have obtained permission from Scottish Forestry to fell two small areas of mature timber in the northeast (area behind Woodend bungalows on the left as you enter the wood) and northwest area (behind Mannachie adjacent to Dava Way) of Sanquhar Woodlands. The purpose of this felling is to maintain the integrity of the interface border area between the woodlands and the adjacent residential properties in accordance with the FCWT Boundary Policy.

The north eastern area near the Woodend entrance includes Western Hemlock and Beech, while the north western area features Douglas Fir. Both areas will be replanted with native, low-growing trees such as Wild Cherry, Crab Apple, Rowan, Hazel, and Oak. The smaller trees will be planted within the 25m boundary with neighbouring properties, while the taller trees will be positioned further back. This approach minimises the risk of damage from falling trees, excessive overshadowing, and fire hazards.

The felling programme will take place during the upcoming autumn/winter period, outside the nesting and breeding season.

Ample warning and details of the forestry work will be provided 3 to 4 weeks before it begins, with diversions identified and put in place. This will be communicated by signage at the work site on all affected paths.
