Grass-cutting starts in wild flower meadow

The programmed grass-cutting has started today in the Wild Flower Meadow which is often referred to as the Coffin Field.

The cutting is being carried out by Moray Council under contract from the FCWT.

The areas to be cut and the depth of cut are being carefully controlled to avoid the area where the orchids grow and where new trees have been planted. The cut grass will lay for a couple of days and then will be removed.

This cut and remove process will reduce the amount of nutrients available in the soil and this should enable wild flowers to grow more easily.
